Using my 5 year old Nikon D90 in 2013, and self travel around from East Asia. This place is gorgeous  and full of history, I am sure you will gain a lot if you go with a local guide. Religion in Thai is varied and the main is Buddhism, which drives people to be nice and pure. 

Photography of local people is one of the choices, however, respecting is always important, please ask before shoot.

Location 

Ayutthaya (大城), full name Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, located at the south of Thailand, 85 km north of Bangkok.

Ayutthaya（大城），全名Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya，位於泰國南部，曼谷以北85公里處。

Transportation (From Bangkok)

• ·         Taxi / grab (https://www.grab.com/th/en/), around 1000 Baht/trip (1.5 hours)
• ·         Train from Bangkok’s Hua Lamphong Station, around 15 Baht/trip (2 hours)
• ·         Minivan from Victory Monument, around 100 baht (2 hours)

Accommodation

Travelling Ayutthaya from Bangkok for a 1-day trip is a bit too rush, highly recommend to book a hotel or local accommodation.

Booking a Tuk Tuk is needed, the price can be negotiated, it was like 200-300 Baht per hour.
